Margaret REDDISH

Photograph of headstone that reads: In Memory of MARGARET REDDISH who for the long period of 43 years was housekeeper in the family of the late MR JAMES ANDREWES of this town.  She died on the 30th April 1856 aged 62 years.  DESERVEDLY & SINCERELY REGRETTED

Margaret Reddish was employed as housekeeper to the Andrewes family for 43 years. She died on 30th April 1856 at the residence of Mrs Andrewes at Russell Street, Reading. She was 62 years old. We do not know much about Margaret’s life at this stage.

Her grave is very close to the Andrewes’ cast iron urns. Her tombstone states “Deservedly and Sincerely Regretted”.

James Andrewes was one of the partners of the Reading Ironworks Co.
