(1855-1893)

Life story written by Judy Williams

Annie Caroline was my Great Grandmother. She was born in Pangbourne to Jane and John JOHNSON and baptised on 14th October 1855. Jane and John are both buried in St James the Less Church in Pangbourne.

Annie was the second wife of Mathew Henry PETERS and mother of Sidney Victor PETERS and Annie Amelia PETERS, my Grandmother. Mathew was a carpenter and they lived at 14 Cambridge Street, Reading. Annie died of phthisis and diarrhoea. When she died , her sister Mary Francis, known as Aunt Polly, who was profoundly deaf, helped to look after the children and then helped with all her great nieces and nephews. She died in 1940.

Annie Caroline is buried in Reading Old Cemetery.

Annie and Henry went on to have 12 children: Hubert Harry, Albert Edward, George Henry, Eric Ronald, Gilbert Sidney, Lilian Mary, my mother, Frederick Gerald, Flora Annie, Irene Muriel, Bernard Stanley, Norman William and Arthur Leslie.
